Staff Perfusionist

Provides perfusion support service through operation and maintenance of various extracorporeal equipment and instrumentation to support surgical procedures. Provides care for patients in a variety of age ranges. Must be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, or must complete the certification procedure within two years of employment.

Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.

Works under direct supervision of a physician, who may be a surgeon, anesthesiologist,or cardiologist. Works under the supervision or direction of the Director of Perfusion Services for clinical and non clinical matters. Demonstrates knowledge of perfusion theory and techniques, perfusion and perfusion-related equipment and instrumentation, anatomy and physiology, and knowledge of Geisinger Health System surgical suites policies required. Demonstrates computer literacy. Demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrates deep concern for the health and well-being of others. Must be able to deal with patients in such a way as to instill confidence and ease of communication. Demonstrates ability to possess a working knowledge of the Medical Center. Demonstrates maturity and initiative. Baccalaureate degree (minimum) and graduation from an accredited (Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs) school of perfusion education, required.

American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certification, or completion of certification within two years of hiring,required. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Requires ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and to occasionally push or pull items weighing over 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to be within normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions, irregular hours, and extended on-call availability. Special Employment requirements: Residence within 25 minutes response time to the hospital.
